For the second day in a row it is sunny here in beautiful London-town! I am really hoping that it will cool off a bit and maybe even rain! Is it wrong that I am hoping for rain?!
Oh, before I go any further it must be mentioned that the keyboard I am using is a bit odd...as in they keys are kind of different. (when I get back to my flat, I will upload pictures and post it here to show you what it looks like) I feel like it will take me a few more days to get use to it. So if my words are a bit off...or out of order it is because I am trying to figure this thing out...and lack of sleep (stupid hard mattress). ^-^
So after Lisa, Allison, and I left the AIFS centre (where I currently am, using the computers) we headed to down to Technology Row and after a lot of walking in the hot, humid air - just as we were about to give up - we found this cell phone store and we were able to get cell phones for 9.95£ and had to top it up with 20£ and we got a wifi stick for 24.95£ and had to top it up with 15£. The phones are actually quite brilliant, the calls at 20p (that is pence, for you americans) for the first three minutes you use each day, and then 15p after that; and texts are 15p. The brilliant beyond brilliant thing is that incoming calls and texts are free!! I have already sent three texts (one to dad, mom, and shells) to give my number to them. If you feel like texting me, my number is 011 44 7552992646 (011 is the the country code and 44 is the area code and the rest is the number). And do not worry mom, this is a disposable mobile...that is the only reason I am posting the number; but I know you are still going to worry anyway. ^-^
After Technology Row, we went over to Barkley's to get cash (cause it is free if Bank of America customers use the Barkley's...on both ends) and Lisa and I were both NOT able to get money but Allison was able. A similar thing happened the first night we were here, lisa and I were able to get money, but Allison was not...our odds a bit off... ^-^. Lisa then had to go inside to get money, so that worked out for her. It was not until later that I discovered that I was not able to get money because the check I deposited was still pending. Blegh! I guess it was a good thing that I still had cashy moneies.
The three of us then navigated the tube from the Victoria Line to the Piccadilly Line. At first Lisa and Allison did not want to chance it, but I REALLY did not want to walk back to the Russell Square stop (which is the stop we get off at to get to the ulu - university of london union) but I somehow managed to convince them that this adventure would be worth it...and it was. We managed to get to Green Park and transferred to the Piccadilly Line and got to Gloucester Square just fine.
We then decided to try and use our new internet device thing, so we took over a table outside a coffee shop called Coffee Republic (Deli) and took out our laptops. Long story short, all three of our laptops - which had only 10% battery due to lack of converters to charge them - died before we could get the software completely installed. OH! I forgot to say what we were searching for...a towel! Lisa decided to listen to one of advisor on the trip and not bring one but buy one, but we have been in at least six shops and did not find one in ANY OF THEM! So, after a lot of adventuring we ended up at Sainsbury (which is a grocery store, plus a little more) that is up the street from our house. It was actually a cool store and we found a lot of really cheap stuff...and FRUIT!! Is it sad that I was really excited about finding fruit?!
Ok, so lisa and I, since we are sharing a room, decided to share some of the food too so we technically had three separate purchases. So, to make it easy, we went to the self checkout. Now, we KNEW what we were doing, but the cashier lady decided that we did not and screwed our order all to hell. So after a lot of me telling her that I did in fact know what I was doing, I gave up and just started ringing up stuff. What she should have done - aside from leave us alone - was tell me that these were not actually the self checkout registers, but the emergency registers. If she had merely said that, we would have have had a problem. Instead, I left the tore majorly pissed off and flustered. By the time we got back to the house, however, and put the groceries away I had calmed down. Then, after my shower, I was even more calm. ^-^
After a few mores attempts we managed to get our Internet stick up and working! So we spent a few hours doing Internet stuff and then went off to bed.
Today we already had class - we discussed Romeo and Juliet - and tonight we are going to go and see it at the GLOBE THEATRE!! As for the next few hours, I do not know...we might end up back at the flat preparing for The Tempest tomorrow or we might end up in someplace completely different!! I will let you know tomorrow!
cheers, amanda
